Motion_backwards

Definition:

A Theme moves back from a Source to a Goal. The Source where the motion started may be expressed or it may be understood from context, but the existence of this Source is not implied as in the predicates of the Get_back frame.

Theme is the entity (person or object) that moves.
       Eva RETROCEDIÓ un poco para recoger el sobre que se le había caído.
 
       El coche RETROCEDIÓ lentamente.

Area [Are]
This frame element indicates the Area where motion takes place. Motion does not have to be regular or to consist of a single linear path.

Circumstances []
This FE marks the set of conditions under which the Theme moves.

Cotheme [Cot]
Cotheme is the second moving object, expressed as a prepositional phrase.

Degree [Deg]
The Degree of the motion event.
       Las tropas se rindieron, cuando constataron que no podían RETROCEDER más.
 

Depictive [Dep]
The Depictive is a phrase which describes the state of the Theme upon arrival.
       La muchacha RETROCEDIÓ asustada .
 

Distance [Dis]
The distance that the Theme has traveled.
       Las tropas RETROCEDIERON casi doscientos kilómetros antes de rendirse.
 

Duration [Dur]
Duration FE refers to the period of time for which the motion event takes place.

Frequency [Fre]
How often a motion event takes place.

Intention [Int]
This FE expresses the intention of the motion event performed by the Theme. Intention FEs are prepositional infinitive or sentential complements introduced by the preposition a and are syntactic arguments of the verb.

Iteration []
This FE refers to the number of times an action takes place.

Manner [Man]
A Manner expression describes a property of motion which is not directly related to the trajectory of motion. Descriptions of speed, steadiness, grace, means of motion, and other things count as Manner expressions.
       Los huelguistas RETROCEDIERON con desgana hasta entrar en la fábrica.
 

Manner_of_motion [Ma_m]
This FE refers to a motion verbal predicate (usually a gerundive) that specifies how the motion event is physically carried out.
       El bebé RETROCEDIÓ gateando hasta donde estaban sus juguetes.
 

Means [Mea]
This FE identifies the Means by which a Theme arrives.

Mode_of_transportation [Mo_t]
The Mode_of_transportation expresses how the motion of the Theme is effected, by its body or by a vehicle which holds and conveys the Theme. Vehicles can move in any way and in any medium. They are ususally expressed by PPs headed by en (in) or by multi-word adverbs.

Path [Pat]
Path is any description of a trajectory of motion which is neither a Source nor a Goal. In this frame Path expressions almost always have a via-sense.

Place [Pla]
This FE identifies the Place where motion event occurs.
       En las zonas ocupadas por el ejército, los insurgentes se vieron obligados a RETROCEDER por temor a los bombardeos.

The Purpose of the motion event.
       La muchacha RETROCEDIÓ unos pasos para recoger lo que se le había caído.
 

Reason [Rea]
Reason why the motion event takes place.
       Los muchachos tuvieron que RETROCEDER desde donde estaban porque se habían perdido.
 

Result [Res]
The Result of the motion event.
       El automóvil RETROCEDIÓ lentamente hasta detenerse justo delante de mí.
 

Source [Sou]
Source is any expression which implies a definite starting-point of motion. The Source where the motion started may be expressed or it may be understood from context.

Speed [Spe]
This FE identifies the Speed at which the motion occurs.
       El automóvil RETROCEDIÓ velozmente hasta el lugar del accidente.
 

Time [Tim]
This FE identifies the Time when arriving occurs.
       Las tropas RETROCEDIERON tras la derrota.
